According to Chris Mortensen of ESPN, Matthew Stafford has signed a contract with the Detroit Lions to make him the #1 pick in the 2009 NFL Draft. The contract details as reported are $41.7m in guarentees, $78m maximum value over six years. Potentially Stafford will go into camp competing for the starting QB job with Daunte Culpepper, Drew Stanton, and Drew Henson.
Detroit still has the 20th overall pick in the first and the 33rd overall pick (second round). Look for Detroit to either add a backside protector for the Stafford investment and/or defensive help, after all the Lions did have statistically the second worse defense all-time.
